“Crisis” Management: “Supermen”? Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin Set for CW Crossover

Arrowverse Crossover: Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin Will Both Play Superman

Brandon Routh's Legends of Tomorrow will suit up as the Man of Steel in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event— just as he did for the 2006 Bryan Singer movie, Superman Returns.

Moreover, Arrowverse alum Tyler Hoechlin will also take over his position as Supes for the crossover, Deadline reports from our sister site.

Routh, who plays Ray Palmer aka The Atom on Legends, is reported to appear as the Clark Kent / Superman of one "time frame" in the crossover, while Hoechlin plays the Steel Man from another. Where eitherpart(s) of the crossover will appear is uncertain.

Inspired by the famous DC Comics arc, this year's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover will be a five-parter featuring Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends and the Batwoman freshman series. The first three parts will air in December; the other two will air in early 2020 after the midseason break, including the Legends of Tomorrow installment.

Now that we're going to Comic-Con International this week: San Diego (SDCC), it would be a nice time to begin thinking about the return of "Arrowverse" shows from the CW. After a short 10-episode eighth season with Arrow shuffling off the programming coil of the network (making The Flash "elder states-show" of the "Arrowverse"), by entering the family, Ruby Rose-starrer Batwoman and a looming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover that could dramatically alter stuff (more on that below), the 2019-2020 season is not going to lack change.

Speaking of "crisis" seems to have started the fun casting announcements! Although official confirmation is anticipated at the CW panel, Deadline Hollywood reports that both Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh are set to play Superman–in alternative universes. Routh returns to his position on the screen for the first time in 2006; and he's also set to depict the personality of Clark Kent and his DC's Legends Of Tomorrow. No word on which crossover episodes the two will appear in, but during SDCC more details are anticipated.

The "Arrowverse" takes over Comic-Con International on Saturday, July 20: San Diego (SDCC) Ballroom 20 for Batwoman's morning meeting (10:30–11:45 a.m.). A gauntlet of presentations starts at mid-afternoon: Arrow (3:30–4:15 p.m.), Supergirl (4:15–5:00 p.m.), Black Lightning (5:00–5:45 p.m.), and The Flash (5:45–6:30 p.m.).

The CW's premiere on Sunday, October 6, for Batwoman and Supergirl ; while the Flash premieres on Tuesday, October 8, with Arrow entering on October 15. The next week, on Monday, October 21, Black Lightning premieres.
